Junfeng Zhao, a researcher in the School of Computer Science, won the 2022 International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 1906 Award

Researcher Zhao Junfeng of the School of Computer Science of Peking University won the 2022 International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 1906 Award, which is the first time that the School of Computer Science of Peking University has won the international award in the field of standards.

As an international expert of ISO/IEC JTC1 SC38 (distributed computing) and ISO/IEC JTC1 WG11 (smart city), Zhao Junfeng has led or participated in the formulation of 6 international standards, white papers on standardization in the field of cloud computing and smart cities, and co-convener of the Smart City Knowledge Credibility Task Force. Among them, Zhao Junfeng led the formulation of the national standard "30145-2:2020 Information technology-Smart City ICT reference framework-Part 2: Smart city knowledge management framework", which was released in November 2020, which provides guidance for building a smart city knowledge management infrastructure. Defines the activities involved in knowledge management in smart cities and gives guidance on how to apply the knowledge. This international standard provides strong technical support for the construction of new smart cities, and is the first international standard in the field of smart city knowledge management. In 2022, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the work of international standards, Zhao Junfeng was nominated by the International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC JTC1/WG11) Smart City Working Group (ISO/IEC JTC1/WG11) and won the 2022 International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 1906 Award.




Zhao Junfeng's award not only represents the IEC's affirmation of its contribution to standardization in the field of smart cities, but also shows that the IEC fully recognizes China's contributions in the field of smart city standardization, which is conducive to enhancing Peking University's voice and influence in the field of international standard formulation.

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is the world's earliest international electrotechnical standardization body, responsible for formulating international standards in the field of electrical and electronics, and is one of the most authoritative international standardization bodies in the world. The "IEC 1906 Award" was established in 2004 to commemorate the establishment of IEC in 1906, to recognize technical experts from various countries who have made outstanding contributions to IEC international electrotechnical standardization, and is one of the three important awards of the IEC. The award is selected once a year, and the finalists are nominated by the chairmen and secretaries of the IEC technical committees, and reviewed and released by the technical officers of the IEC Central Office. Since the establishment of the "IEC 1906 Award", more than 1,000 experts from all over the world have won this award, but most of the award-winning experts are from European and American countries, and the annual "IEC1906 Award" has also become the focus of competition for top experts in the industry.
