On the morning of December 28, 2020, the Key Laboratory of High Confidence Software Technologies held the "Guest Associate Professor Appointment Ceremony" for Dr. Haoyuan Li in Room 2736 of science building No.2. At the appointment ceremony, Prof. Hong Mei, director of the key laboratory, issued the appointment certificate. Later, Dr. Li gave an academic report entitled "Data Orchestration for AI, Big Data, and Cloud" to the audience.

Dr. Haoyuan Li is the founder and CEO of Alluxio, a startup company of big data system software. He graduated from the School of EECS of Peking University in 2008, received a master's degree from Cornell University in 2010, and a doctorate degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 2018. The Alluxio platform is an open source distributed ultra-large-scale data orchestration system jointly created and developed by Dr. Li during his Ph.D. study at AMPLab at the University of California, Berkeley. More than 100 organizations and more than 1,000 contributors have participated in the development of Alluxio. This technology has been widely used in the fields of science and technology, the Internet, finance, and telecommunications.

In the academic report, Dr. Li introduced various challenges faced by data platforms under the current conditions of diverse data storage and computing. He then presented how Alluxio solves the above challenges by implementing a data orchestration layer that provides a unified data access and caching layer. According to multiple Alluxio application cases, Alluxio has brought 2-10 times acceleration to the data platform. The audience was deeply inspired by Dr. Li’s report. They asked questions and expressed their appreciation for Dr. Li Haoyuan’s report and work.
