On January 19, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) announced the list of newly elected ACM Fellows for 2021. Xie Tao, Chair Professor at Peking University's School of Computer Science, was elected an ACM Fellow for his contributions to software testing and analytics. A total of 4 Chinese mainland scholars (including 2 Chinese mainland university scholars) were elected this time.

Founded in 1947, ACM is the world's most influential professional academic organization in the field of computing. Established in 1993 to recognize leaders in computing with "exceptional contributions," less than 1% of ACM members, ACM Fellow is a world-class professional academic honor. A total of 71 computer scientists from around the world were elected, covering the fields of algorithms, computer science education, cryptography, data security and privacy, medical informatics, and mobile and network systems.

Last month, Professor Xie Tao was also elected as a Fellow of the Chinese Computer Federation (CCF), making him the second scholar to be elected as an ACM Fellow, IEEE Fellow, AAAS Fellow, and CCF Fellow. In 2019, Xie Yuan (Xie Tao's brother) was elected ACM Fellow, and this election of Xie Tao means that the two brothers (each specializing in computer hardware and software) have become the Fellow of the three international top international societies of ACM (International Computer Society), IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), and AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science). There are only a handful of Chinese scholars in the world who have been elected as Fellows of these three top international societies.
